WHITE FILLINGS

Treating Cavities with Modern Fillings

We have long moved away from the unattractive and noticeable fillings of the past. At Go Dental in Valencia, CA, we restore cavities using white fillings, which are both effective and attractive. Our dentists are experts in placing aesthetically pleasing fillings that blend in with your teeth, and white fillings are one of the most common dental procedures we do at Go Dental.

What Are Cavities?

Cavities are a kind of tooth decay that causes small holes to form on the teeth. Cavities are caused by the buildup of bacteria on the teeth, and consuming sugary foods and drinks and improperly brushing your teeth are thought to contribute to cavities. Anyone can get cavities, but they are most common in children. Cavities left untreated can lead to pain, infection and even tooth loss. Cavities, however, can be difficult to identify on your own, and it’s important to visit your dentist regularly so they can identify and treat cavities as soon as they form.

Benefits Of White Fillings

At Go Dental, we place white fillings for the following reasons:

Fillings help return a tooth to its previous functionality, contributing to an overall healthy mouth.

White fillings are composite or tooth-colored fillings that match the color and texture of your natural tooth.

Fillings help prevent more serious problems such as chronic dental pain and tooth loss.

Fillings are one of the most widely-used and affordable ways to restore a decaying tooth.

The procedure is short, easy and requires little to no special aftercare.

To prevent losing teeth, it’s important to visit your dentist regularly and maintain healthy dental habits. Call your dentist right away if you experience a chip or a break, or if you lose a tooth.

PLACING YOUR FILLING

At Go Dental, getting a filling is a short and relatively comfortable experience. Placing a filing begins by preparing the tooth for the filling. To do so, a process called etching creates a strong bond on the surface of the tooth for the white filling. The white filling will be created from a composite resin mold that is color matched to blend seamlessly with your smile. Blue light is then applied to the resin to harden it and hold your white filling in place. After the white filling is placed, your dentist will check your bite and make sure that your new filling is comfortable.

CARING FOR YOUR FILLINGS

Fillings do not last forever, but they can last for many years with proper care. Thankfully, fillings do not require any special care. Fillings require regular and routine dental care, just like the rest of your teeth, in order to last. The following are just a few of the ways Go Dental recommends taking care of your fillings and other restorative dentistry work:

Electric toothbrushes are more effective than regular toothbrushes at removing plaque.

Brushing your teeth is the easiest way to remove bacteria from your teeth. Properly brushing your teeth includes brushing the outside, inside, and biting surfaces of your teeth. Make sure to also brush along the gumline.

Flossing helps remove food particles and bacteria from your gums and between the teeth, lessening your risk of gum disease.

Sticky and hard food can be harmful to your restorative work. Instead, stick to soft foods or cut more challenging foods into small pieces.

Adding an antibacterial mouthwash to your routine helps fight plaque and bacteria.
