TREATMENT FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Serving Our Disabled Community

At Go Dental, we help patients of all abilities access dental care. The unfortunate truth is that patients with special needs may have had a negative experience with a previous dental provider. We aim to go above and beyond the guidelines specified by the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) that states that practices should provide reasonable accommodations to individuals with special needs.

We strive to safely accommodate patients with a wide range of physical and intellectual disabilities. There are many different people who may need special dental accommodations, including:

  • Patients with physical disabilities

  • Individuals with intellectual disabilities

  • Geriatric patients with certain diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease

  • People who have had life-threatening allergic reactions to local anesthetics

  • Patients with serious underlying conditions such as cancer or diabetes

OUR WELCOMING, ACCESSIBLE OFFICE

Our Go Dental commitment is to provide an environment that is physically accommodating and emotionally welcoming to all of our patients. We’re committed to serving our disabled patients in the following ways:

Our one-story office is completely wheelchair accessible. From the outdoor ramp to our spacious floor plan, patients who use mobility aids can easily navigate our practice.

At Go Dental, we have two larger dental chairs for disabled patients, equipped with built-in medical gasses and separate X-ray units. This equipment easily accommodates special needs patients who may need to use deep sedation during dental treatment.

We know that creating a practice that truly accommodates patients with special needs is built on education. Our dental providers have completed advanced medical training and have extensive experience working with patients with disabilities. Additionally, our friendly and empathetic team works hard to help patients with special needs feel comfortable in our office.

DENTAL SEDATION FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Many people turn to sedation dentistry to help with anxiety when visiting the dentist, but disabled people may require sedation dentistry regardless of their anxiety level. Due to the physical nature of cleaning and examining the teeth, sedation may be the best way for the patient to feel comfortable during treatment.

We work with UCLA’s Sedation Group of experienced anesthesiologists to provide dental sedation services at our Valencia, CA office. UCLA’s anesthesiologists come to us so that patients can receive treatment right here in our office. Our team works with the anesthesiologist to help the patient feel comfortable and informed. We typically recommend deep sedation via IV sedation for our disabled patients, but the type of sedation necessary will ultimately be based on the patient’s preferences and medical needs.

If you or a loved one is disabled, visiting the dentist in the past may have been challenging and anxiety-inducing. At Go Dental, we help people with special needs receive the dental care they deserve in a comfortable environment. With our accessible office, knowledgeable staff and sedation services, we help patients with special needs have a positive experience receiving dental treatment.
