CROWNS & BRIDGES

Creating Long-Lasting Smiles

Dental crowns are used to restore the shape and size of damaged teeth, and strengthen and restore functionality. Crowns sit on top of the existing tooth, “capping” the tooth. There are different types of dental crowns, including onlays and ¾ crowns, which cover less of your teeth. These smaller crows are typically used if much of your tooth’s bone structure remains.

Crowns

WHITE CROWNS

At Go Dental, we only use white crowns, which are more aesthetically pleasing than traditional crowns. White crowns blend in with the existing and surrounding teeth, creating an overall pleasing appearance while improving the affected tooth’s functionality. Reasons why a patient might need a crown include:

  • Covering a large filling

  • Protecting a tooth from decay

  • Restoring a broken, cracked or worn down tooth.

  • Attaching a bridge

COSMETIC CROWNS

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped prosthetic, usually made of porcelain, that improves the appearance of a tooth. A cosmetic crown is attached to the natural tooth and looks just like your other teeth. The crown functions like a white or traditional crown but is used for predominantly aesthetic purposes.

PLACING YOUR CROWN

At Go Dental in Valencia, CA we prioritize both the function and look of each and every restorative device, no matter how small. Using the most advanced technology and innovative techniques in the field, our dentists specialize in creating customized, easy-to-place white and cosmetic dental crowns. The process of creating and placing your crown includes:

Before your crown can be placed, your existing tooth must be reshaped. Reshaping consists of shaving down the top and sides so that there’s room for the crown. If too much of your tooth is missing, a filling material may be used to create more room for the crown.

After the crown is shaped, digital impressions are taken of the tooth. These impressions are then used to create your crown, which will be custom-made to precisely fit your tooth.

Your dentist may apply a local anesthetic to numb the tooth before placing your permanent crown. Our dentist will make sure the fit and color of the crown match perfectly before cementing the crown to the tooth.

BRIDGES

Bridges are a type of restorative device consisting of an artificial tooth, or teeth, between two crowns. The crowns on a bridge fit over the existing teeth, with the artificial tooth or teeth between the crowns spanning the area of the missing teeth. The artificial teeth on a bridge look and function just like your natural ones. In addition to restoring functionality, a bridge also creates a smooth, balanced appearance to your smile. You may need a dental bridge if you’re missing teeth and experiencing:

  • Difficulty chewing

  • Pain

  • Bite Problems

PLACING A BRIDGE

Before the bridge procedure, your dentist will walk you through each step and answer any questions you have. Preparing and placing a bridge consists of the following:

First, your dentist shaves down or removes the parts of the teeth that the crowns will sit on.

Your dentist will take digital scans of your teeth. Your scan will be used to create your bridge, ensuring the bridge custom fits your teeth. A temporary bridge may be placed while your permanent bridge is made to hold everything in place.

When placing your bridge, your dentist will first remove the temporary bridge. Adjustments may be made while placing your permanent bridge to make sure that your bridge fits your mouth perfectly. During your follow-up appointment, your dentist will make sure that your bridge is functioning properly and fits comfortably in your mouth.
